Some of my work

If you want a factory made knife, there are many available. Each is like it's brother, qualities vary between manufacturers. There is little personality or life in them. If they were even handled, it was on an assembly line or in a shipping department.
The knives in these pictures are made of High Carbon steel. Usually 5160 or 1075. These steels are durable and hold a great edge. They can also be sharpened easily. All are hand forged one at a time and quenched in oil. They are then tempered to remove the brittleness from the quench. Each is hand honed and is VERY sharp.

Some of them have a visible temper line or "Hamon". Clay is added to the back "spine" of the blade, insulating it and only the edge is hardened. When etched, the different hardness is evident. Handle materials vary. Hemp and Cotton twine, Woods, Micarta etc.
I also make my own sheaths for each knife. They are hand tooled, hand stitched and as different as each knife. Most of the blades you see are available for sale.

If you'd like to discuss a custom piece and its sheath design, call me and let's share ideas.
